Millennium Hotel Rotorua takes environmental lead!Rotorua residents dispose of millions of plastic bags every year in the city's waterways, and local fish, bird and wildlife are at risk. The city's recycling centre manager Alan Foote says plastic bags are messy, not biodegradable and often end up blowing around the city and into the lakes and bush areas.
The hotel's executive assistant manager Andrew Whittaker said it was part of a year-long pilot under the Sustainable Tourism Charter,

Rotorua's Millennium Hotel is doing its bit to reduce its use of plastic bags. It has 227 bedrooms, each with two bins which are emptied daily. The hotel used to send 55,000 plastic bags to the landfill annually but has reduced that by 15,000 by using recycled paper towels to line its bins.
